Fish & Richardson Enhances Customer Engagement with ON24 Webinar Platform

August 25th, 2014

Leading Intellectual Property Law Firm Uses ON24 Webcast Elite to Deliver Thought Leadership and Continuing Education Content

SAN FRANCISCO – August 25, 2014 – Fish & Richardson, an international law firm dedicated to intellectual property, litigation and technology law, has developed with ON24 a thought leadership webcast series supporting business development and relationship building, especially with existing clients. The webinars feature valuable continuing education content for legal professionals and ease of use and access, at any time, through many different channels.

The Challenge: Finding a Reliable Webcasting Vendor
In order to provide legal updates to clients, prospects, industry peers and others with an interest in Fish’s post-grant practice, the firm began to host a monthly webinar in 2012. These live webcasts were designed to support the legal community by providing the latest information on the practice of post-grant law and also offered participating attorneys continuing legal education (MCLE) credit, free of charge. The sessions became popular with post-grant legal practitioners, resulting in initially high registration numbers and robust attendance.

However, as the series grew in popularity, Fish & Richardson’s legacy webcasting vendor began to experience reliability, scale and performance problems. Due in part to a corporate merger and also to severe technical limitations, the legacy platform caused numerous problems for Fish & Richardson, including:

  • Lack of a customizable user interface
  • Lack of cross-platform compatibility, including support for Macintosh computers and mobile devices or even basic support for popular Internet browsers
  • End users were frequently not connected to the webcast audio or randomly disconnected, and archived files provided only speaker audio
  • Absent and/or ill-informed customer service personnel
  • Vendor professional services miscues, including errors in presenter names and titles

The Solution: ON24 Webcast Elite
This litany of serious performance and service issues had a negative impact on Fish & Richardson’s webinar series, pushing down registration numbers and ultimately making it difficult for the firm to justify the cost of the webinar series. As a result, the firm sought a new webcasting solution, and after evaluating a number of solutions, Fish & Richardson selected ON24’s Webcast Elite. Key factors in the decision included Webcast Elite’s user-friendly webcast-creation tools, interactive widgets and powerful event-reporting analytics, as well as ON24’s deep experience serving the marketing and educational needs of the legal industry.

Since implementing Webcast Elite for its post-grant webinar series, Fish has seen a meaningful uptick in attendance and engagement. The platform’s reliable registration system means that the firm’s marketing team can concentrate on driving registration and delivering compelling content, rather than chasing down their webcasting vendor to fix holes in a leaky product. Session attendance has doubled, and enthusiasm and engagement are high.

Within 24 hours after the completion of a live webinar, an archived version (audio and slides) of each webcast is posted on Fish’s corporate website and various microsites, and follow-up emails are immediately sent to all registrants. MCLE credits are rapidly and efficiently applied, and the firm’s attorneys also personally follow up on any attendee questions that go unanswered during the webinar.

With Webcast Elite, Fish & Richardson has achieved results that enable the firm to cost-justify its webinar program, as well as to expand webcasts into new practice areas such as litigation and patent law. In addition, the firm can be of greater service to the post-grant legal community and drive deeper relationships with existing clients and new business prospects. Fish & Richardson Senior Marketing Assistant Emma Brown attributes the success of the program to the ON24 platform’s ease of use. “ON24 allows me to focus more actively on business development and marketing, rather than managing webinar details like registration and event creation.”

“Fish & Richardson is a great example of how an advanced webinar-based marketing platform, built for lead generation and education, can change the game with a comprehensive feature set and reliable global delivery,” commented ON24 CEO Sharat Sharan. “Webcast Elite’s ease of use means that ON24 customers like Fish can focus on delivering specialized and engaging content that helps drive their business, rather than fixing issues. ON24 is truly a one-stop shop for enterprises seeking a competitive advantage through a webinar-based marketing platform.”
